After the record breaking winter this beach town experienced, it’s no surprise many students at Scituate High School are participating in some form of spring fever. Although the weather isn’t prime for outdoor activities yet, it is officially spring and warmer weather is just around the corner. Summer is on everyone’s mind, and as most students would agree, a favorite part of spring and summer includes concerts.
Attending a concert with friends can create everlasting memories. Who doesn’t want to spend a couple hours listening to lively music while being surrounded by friends and warm weather?Tickets for concerts such as Summer Jam and Tim McGraw have already gone on sale. Recently, lunch table discussions have been about which concerts the majority of students will be attending. Questions fill the air about the best website for purchasing tickets. Both boys and girls can be heard consulting about which concerts “everybody is going to.” There are countless options for which acts to see, and living right near Boston provides students with opportunities to see various 2015 tours, depending on which genre is their favorite. Not every student at SHS has the same taste in music; however, the large population of classmates who are present at these concerts demonstrates that music diversity is not an issue.
The social aspect of attending a concert is arguably just as important as the quality of the music. The social aspect, not to mention the social media aspect, is a huge reason why some students decide to get their hands on any tickets possible. During, after, and even before a concert, students from SHS more often than not will provide their social media followers with an Instagram, Tweet, or a Snapchat update.
When asked why she is looking forward to the upcoming concert season, junior Molly Sullivan said, “I enjoy the fun atmosphere, hanging out with friends, listening to live music, and being carefree for a couple hours.” Many students would agree with Sullivan’s attitude toward concerts because it’s a limited time to embrace your surroundings.
As the final school term approaches, students in all grades will scramble to join their peers for a concert event that will highlight their summer plans. Students look forward to a memorable night alongside peers they may have not seen since the end of the school year. Despite the specific reason of attending these concerts, it will be interesting to see which concert attracts the majority of SHS students. After the tough winter, every student at SHS deserves a summer night filled with superb music. The long anticipated concert season has finally arrived — now it’s time to decide which act to see.
