SHS Drama Club Scores a Hit with Mamma Mia!
January 15, 2019
Music emanated from the Performing Art Center on November 17th as the SHS Drama Club put on their rendition of the classical Mamma Mia! Heart-stopping vocals mixed with the lively comedy transported the audience to a colorful Greek island. It was evident that the drama students poured their hearts and souls into this production, and the audience was thankful for it. The production stayed true to the movie everyone loves so much while adding unique elements that made the play unique to SHS drama.
After being released on Broadway in 1999, Mamma Mia! production rights have been increasingly difficult to procure. Thankfully, Scituate High School is one of the first schools in the state to receive the opportunity to purchase rights to the show.
Through the efforts of the entire cast and crew, the Drama Club was able to tackle the story that they wanted to perform, and the resulting performance was incredible. Senior Payton Swan excelled in her starring role as Donna, as did sophomore Caroline Concannon as her daughter Sophie. Outstanding performances by senior Michael O’Keefe as Sam, senior Noel Connolly as Bill, and junior Hayden Startzell as Harry portrayed an accurate depiction of the characters whom we love so much!
Praising all the lead actors would take up pages, so we would like to thank the whole cast for putting forth a resounding effort. We also give credit to those behind the scenes whose efforts may have gone unnoticed. Thank you to those who worked on set design, audio, and lighting; the production would have been incomplete without you!
