Murder Shocks the Rap World Once Again

Jimmy Tolton, Business Manager

Rapping sensation and pop culture icon, Takeoff, was pronounced dead on November 1, 2022. Takeoff, also known as Kirshnik Khari Bell, who is most known as being a member of the popular rap group Migos, was shot and killed in Atlanta at a Halloween party at around 2:30 AM on Monday morning. The tragedy occurred after a verbal argument about some money that was owed. Quavo, another popular rapper and Takeoff’s second hand man, was the stem of the argument. The argument occurred after Quavo refused to pay someone after a gambling loss. This altercation quickly escalated and led to gunfire. Takeoff, who was just off to the side, a bystander, ended up being hit by a stray bullet which ultimately led to his tragic death.

This tragedy has taken over the internet since it happened, catching the attention of many rappers in the music industry. Top names like Drake and Roddy Ricch have expressed their condolences to the family of the late Takeoff. Drake said, “I got the best memories of all of us seeing the world together.”

Takeoff’s death will continue to have a huge impact on the rap world for a long time. This is just one of the many occurrences where a rapper’s career has been cut short due to a fatality. Gun violence in the rap world has been a growing problem, and if it doesn’t change, the music industry will continue to lose some of its most important artists. R.I.P. Takeoff.
