There were so many tragedies that took place during COVID-19, and one of them included the closing of the movie theater in Scituate Harbor. Fortunately, local entrepreneurs brought it back to life this past summer as a family-friendly theater, “The Reel.”
SHS senior Katerina Guyette is a manager at The Reel and describes it as “a great place to work and a great place to watch movies.” Although the theater only offers one movie, the atmosphere is welcoming. “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was a huge hit, according to Guyette, who added, “People were fighting to get into the theater.” Senior Max Carr, a movie fanatic who recently watched the new Taylor Swift movie, stated, “I enjoyed my time there. It was a great movie and very nice workers.” Carr plans to return for the next movie showing “no matter what film it is.”
Senior Eddie O’Donnell is also a big fan of The Reel, commenting, “The Reel in the Harbor is the perfect spot to see a movie. The first time I went in there, I was shocked with how nice it was and how much I enjoyed it. The luxury of seeing movies in Scituate is officially back.”
Senior Johnny Donahue, whose family owns Nona’s Homemade, an ice cream shop located around the corner from The Reel, mentioned that the movie theater has been good for business: “It’s nice to have the theater back–everyone loves being able to see a movie in town and then stop in for ice cream after.”
The Reel offers new hits as well as classic films. Private showings are also available for birthday parties or other special occasions.
