This article was intended to review the newly released Kung Fu Panda 4 film; however, this experience fell short. Already being on a tight time crunch, we had only an hour and a half of time to spare to watch the new movie. Having sports practices after school and siblings to drive home from school, efficiency was key.
After a ticket malfunction and lengthy previews—unfortunately, we only got to watch about fifteen minutes of the movie. Originally planning on going to the 1:15 show, the far drive to Hanover Crossing made it impossible to meet that deadline. Upon arrival the tickets were switched to the 1:50 showing, leaving us very minimal time.
We were skeptical of a fourth movie installment into this beloved Kung Fu Panda franchise; however, even with the short amount watched, we believe that the enticing animations and amusing script make this movie worth watching.
The plot centers around Po, the main character, who has now become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace. Nevertheless, he becomes threatened by a new villain, The Chameleon (voiced by Viola Davis), who plans to steal Po’s Staff of Wisdom to help her conquer the world.
With Jack Black playing “The Dragon Warrior” Po, the comedy was top-tier. Li Shan (voiced by Bryan Cranston) and Mr. Ping (voiced by James Pong) are a hilarious duo to watch on screen as they go on a side quest together, adding to the humor of the movie.
Viola Davis as the new villain, The Chameleon, was another positive addition to the movie, and the voice acting was exceptional. This character’s ability to transform into Po’s old enemies makes the film more exciting and enjoyable. The shape-shifting aspect allowed for other character appearances in this film, including the infamous Tai Lung, a fan-favorite villain from the first Kung Fu Panda.
The main problem was the absence of the Furious Five, the original group from the first films who helped Po on his quests. We still believe the story was complete even without these character’s presence.
Additionally, this movie had the lowest Kung Fu Panda franchise budget, causing fans to wonder if this would negatively affect the animation. From what was seen, the animations and visuals in the film were still just as spectacular, with numerous thrilling action scenes.
An honorable mention to the Showcase Cinema de Lux Hanover Crossing–we give the theater 5 stars for comfort, accommodations, and friendly staff.
The previews were also enjoyable, particularly Inside Out 2, released in theaters on June 14th, 2024. Also, the new Garfield movie, released on May 24, 2024, directed by Sony Pictures, was a big hit.
Although our time at the Kung Fu Panda 4 movie was cut short, we recommend seeing the entire movie!
