CP’s Woodfired Pizza, a staple in Scituate for over a decade, made its biggest and best decision yet.
The shop, led by owner and founder Chris Patrick, opened a new location up the road at 318 Driftway.
“It’s been phenomenal,” Patrick commented since the opening. “We had 200 people here for the grand opening. Cannot be more grateful.”
CP’s has been a favorite for the Scituate community for several years, and its new location furthers the shop’s success in its 10+ years of operation. The distinct flavor of the woodfired pizza contrasts with the other pizza shops in Scituate, which has helped create a name for the place.
“Elite,” is how Scituate High School seniors Willy Robinson and Ronan Manning described the pizza, saying its “high quality and thin crust” keeps them coming back.
“I like the crust, the margarita pizza specifically,” said SHS English teacher Christina Dimitri. “I think the ingredients are really good.”
In high school, Chris Patrick developed a love for cooking and pursued this talent with a job at Regina Pizza. Although he loved cooking, Patrick additionally had a profound interest in snakes and even decided to pursue this love in college.
He attended Louisiana State University, earning a degree in herpetology and marine biology, and soon discovered the little money that was in the industry. Post college, Patrick decided to stay in Louisiana, where he worked as a cook.
After his time in Louisiana, Patrick came back up to the South Shore and worked for Jimmy Burke, owner of the now-closed JW’s burgers. After Burke’s retirement, Patrick opened up CP’s Pizza, with a different perspective on pizza than other places in town.
“I didn’t like other pizzas that weren’t woodfired,” said Patrick. “I’d rather go down with the ship, knowing that it’s something I’m passionate about, versus only trying to make money and doing the same generic thing as everyone else does.”
CP’s alternative method for making pizza has undoubtedly worked well for the business, and in 2018, the Scituate Chamber of Commerce named CP’s the Business of the Year.
As CP’s popularity rose across Scituate, Patrick knew an upgraded location was necessary. CP’s original location was down the Driftway next to The Rivershed. It was a small building that was used solely for takeout. The expanded space within the new location allows people to eat in the restaurant, and more pizza can be produced.
“I want to add a lot more upscale Italian food,” said Patrick when asked about his aspirations for the future. “I enjoy my job every day and want to keep it going. I’m all in.”
CP’s Woodfired Pizza is open Tuesday through Thursday, 4-9, and Friday through Sunday, 12-9.
