This past year has been full of iconic fashion trends. It all started with bows in the winter, transitioning into low-rise baggy jeans and graphic baby tees for spring and “brat summer” as a theme for summer style. But the current question on everyone’s mind is, what is trending? To find out, we asked SHS students known for their iconic sense of style and some people involved in the fashion industry.
My personal predictions for 2025 are inspired by a mix of intuition and emerging runway trends, illustrated by winter and spring 2025 runway shows. Mesh and sheer fabrics will make a comeback, this time with a focus on elegance, as shown by MiuMiu and Pradas recent Spring 2025 runway shows. Tech-inspired fashion, with its futuristic vibe, will dominate wardrobes through the use of silver, and metallics, illustrated by Isabel Marant and Schiaparelli’s shows, reflecting the rise in technology. Low-rise denim will continue to trend, but this time with a focus on more with unique washes, such as acid, ombre, and shimmery effects. Statement jewelry will invite for more self expression within simple outfits, specifically chunky gold rings and large charms with gemstones. On the topic of accessories, I predict people will begin to step away from their contacts, embracing the look of glasses and opting for a more chunky frame for stylish eyewear.
I didn’t just rely on research of runway trends and intuition for these predictions. I also spoke to some SHS students and a fashion student at one of the top fashion schools in the country, Savannah College of Art and Design, to get their take on what’s ahead. Alexa Wilhelm, a senior at SHS known for her style, confidently predicts that “dark colors and red leather, ” will be seen taking over winter fashion and rolling into spring. Wilhelm, who works at a popular boutique in North Scituate, Cattivo, has seen many “cozy floral matching sets and fuzzy cardigans” come in shipments over the past few weeks. A fellow senior, May Watkins believes that “fur jackets” will remain a chic option, perfect for those cold winter days when you want to stay warm yet stylish.
For a professional perspective, I reached out to Sydney Reid, a Fashion Marketing and Management student at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Originally from Los Angeles, Reid noted, “This summer and fall, we’ve seen loads of cheetah print and dark cherry red (as expected every fall), and I think those will roll over into fall of 2025. But looking ahead, we’re going to see an elevation of everyday casual looks. People will become more comfortable using accessories as integral parts of their outfits, and metallic wash pieces will be seen everywhere.” Sydney also pointed out that the current market is “insanely oversaturated with boring basics,” emphasizing that brands will have to get more creative to keep consumers engaged and excited. The shift will be all about standing out, with a focus on bolder designs and attention-grabbing materials.
As we look forward to 2025, it’s clear that the year will be all about mixing the futuristic with the familiar, the bold with the refined. With a wave of eclectic fashion that embraces personal style coming this year, fashion lovers have a lot to look forward to. And if Wilhelm, Watkins, and Reid’s insights are any indication, 2025 is all about embracing creativity and making a statement. Make sure to add some of these pieces to your holiday wish list because, if these predictions are right, 2025 will be a year of fearless, unforgettable style. Stay stylish, SHS!
