On February 4, a new takeout restaurant opened at 17 New Driftway, the former location of CP’s Woodfired Pizza.
Rockin’ Burgers is new to Scituate, serving all-American classics–from burgers to wings to chicken sandwiches–along with several different types of fries and sides.
The restaurant originated as a food truck, traveling and serving food all around the South Shore; however, when CP’s relocated, an opportunity arose to expand the business and serve takeout daily.
I ordered takeout last week after hearing positive reviews from numerous people around Scituate, and here is my honest review:
I ordered a smashburger and regular fries, which totaled to $22–a little pricey. The shop offers many different types of burgers and seasonings options for the French fries. After picking up my order and arriving home, the fries were noticeably colder and not as crispy as I expected. The burger was still warm, but not as hot as I would’ve liked; however, this could be expected from a restaurant that only offers takeout food.
The burger was still very good; it consisted of two smashed beef patties with American cheese, sauteed onions, lettuce, and chipotle aioli.
The fries, on the other hand, were not the best. Although seasoned well with salt and pepper, most fries were not very crispy and had a chewy consistency. This was likely due to the moisture within the box as the food sat waiting to be picked up. If the restaurant offered tables for eating in, the fries would likely be much better, and the burger would increase from a good burger to an extraordinary burger. With warmer weather ahead, the addition of picnic tables could be beneficial.
On a 1-10 scale–Dave Portnoy style–Rockin’ Burgers receives a 7.4 from me. To elaborate, the restaurant is good, but with some subtle improvements, it can become great.
