Let’s face it, 2012 was a pretty awesome year. Each month was filled with entertaining events, both in the United States and worldwide. Memorable moments in television, movies, politics, music, and beyond have made the year 2012 one to remember. Here are some of the best things to take away from the year.
CALL ME MAYBE: It goes without saying that everyone and their grandmother knows the lyrics to this song. Despite the fact that it came out in September of 2011, Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit song was overly popular during 2012. Kids will be dancing to this song at proms for years to come.
THE HUNGER GAMES: Whether you’re on team Peeta, team Gale or you simply enjoy the sight of children being murdered, the Hunger Games was a favorite among many and one of the biggest movies of 2012, grossing in $412 million dollars.
KONY 2012: What was this? Seriously, though. The short film about the Invisible Child captivated so many Americans, that they were donating so much money for a cause they knew very little about. And then when the co-founder of the organization was found screaming in his underwear in public, everything just got stranger.
THE OLYMPICS: The summer Olympics in London were outstanding this year. From queen’s jump from a helicopter to Michael Phelp’s jumped into the pool, the Games were endlessly entertaining. To top off the excitement, the U.S raked in 46 medals this summer.
INSTAGRAM: A picture of your tofu at an underground vegan cafe never looked better than in 2012 with 15 filter options. Instagram has taken over the iPhone community and is a great way to see more pictures of Miley Cyrus’ dogs.
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: Batman, Catwoman, and Bane. Who cares if the movie is two and a half hours long? The more Batman the better. This was just another gem in the Batman collection.
NFL REPLACEMENT REFS: Was that an interception? Some people still don’t know. Because of the lockout with the normal referees, the NFL was forced to get replacement referees for what seemed like the longest three weeks ever. Needless to say, their calls were not the most appreciated.
THE ELECTION: Unless you don’t own a television, phone, computer, and don’t listen during your history class, the election happened. An abundance of entertaining debates included everything and anything from binders of women to Big Bird. Also, Obama got re-elected.
GANGNAM STYLE: Both the outlandish dance and the contagious Korean lyrics became super popular. It’s astounding how a Korean pop song could be the number one hit in America. Although 99% of us can only understand, “Heeeeeeey sexy ladies” the song and music video are so strangely addicting and so 2012.
