While it is nice to spend a day on one of Scituate’s beautiful beaches, there are also many other things that you can your friends can do this summer.
Instead of spending the day on the beach’s edge, you and your friends can head over to Plymouth harbor and take full advantage of one of the many all-day fishing trips offered. For about $40 per person (on average), you can enjoy a four, six, or eight hour day out on the ocean. The best part is, you keep your catch! If you are not good at fishing, you can use the opportunity as a quality tanning session or just time with your friends.
If water isn’t your thing, head to the mountains. Blues Hills is an excellent place to spend the day.
The reservation is not only home to an abundance of wildlife, but historical significance as well. This includes the Blue Hills Meteorological Observatory, the oldest continuous weather recording station in the United States.
For those of you who enjoy the music scene, Boston, and in particular Cambridge, is a great place to see local bands.
“ ‘The Paradise’ in Boston is a nice venue with pretty cool artists,” said junior Jack Duff.
The House of Blues on Lansdowne Street in Boston is also a great place to spend the night with your friends. There are plenty of great, on-the-rise artists that play there, and tickets are relatively cheap. Plus, there’s nothing better than saying “I saw them before they were famous!”
Of these performances, The Blue Man group seems to be the show that captures the most. Its not only a cluster of great musical talent, but also filled with humor and audience interactions that you and your friends can certainly get involved with.
“Front row is kind of pricey, but its totally worth it,” said junior Olivia Kinzel. “They do skits that practically everybody would find hilarious. Its different than any concert you will ever go to.”
Some of the other great shows at the House of Blues this summer include performances by “The Dirty Heads,” “We The Kings,” “Hollywood Undead,” and even “Cold War Kids.”
Lastly, though still a part of Massachusetts, there’s no better (and cheaper) way to feel like you are on vacation than taking a day trip with friends to Martha’s Vineyard.
“ The beaches are really nice and you’d be surprised by all the cool things you can find in some of the shops there,” said freshman Libby Canfield. “ It’s a nice way to escape the daily Scituate beach routine.”
Whatever it is that you and your friends decide to do this summer, be sure to keep in mind all of the great activities there are to do outside of this beloved beach town. While our beaches are some of the best around, getting away for a day offers more of an escape than you think.
Whether that escape may be on the ocean, in the mountains, or in the crowd of a few local performances, summer is sure to give many opportunities for you and friends to just get away.
