It’s that time of year again. Put on your hats and mittens, grab your boots and sleds, and bring on the cold weather. Winter is finally here and it’s a great time to go out and explore new sights in your community. There are plenty of places to go for a peaceful stroll and to have some fun. During the winter some common activities among children or adults are skiing, sledding, ice skating, and walking dogs in the snow.
Some places around the South Shore include Stockbridge Pond (Scituate, MA), this pond is located right next to the rotary and the Scituate Little League baseball field, Widows Walk (Scituate, MA) is a popular golf course in Scituate. When it is closed it is used as a place to walk dogs and to bring your kids to sled down when it snows, Graffiti Hill (Scituate, MA), World’s End (Hingham, MA and Hingham Harbor), Turkey Hill (Hingham, MA off of 3A), Blue Hills (Milton, MA), The Driftway (Scituate, MA), and Norris Reservoir (Norwell, MA)
Some places in or around Boston are the Boston Common (Boston, MA) a grassy park in the front of the Capitol building, the Charles River (Boston, MA), the Frog Pond (Boston, MA on the Boston Common) an outdoor ice rink that is put together each winter for families and tourists to enjoy.
Senior Caroline Hall gets out of the South Shore to have some fun. “Blue Hills is fun. If you want to go ice skating go to Patriot Place,” said Hall.
Some people don’t like to just go for random walks in the snow or skiing. Most people like to go sledding in certain places.
“…On that hill next to the school,” said freshman Zoe Brodsky referring to Graffiti Hill next to the outdoor basketball courts at SHS.
Whether you are sledding, skiing, ice skating, or just walking; enjoy the winter and maybe check out some of these places if you are in need of a fun, and new nature activity.
