As SHS prepares to say goodbye to it’s seniors, it’s also saying farewell to long time school nurse, Mrs.Bernard.
A nurse for 28 years, 14 of them at SHS, Ms.Bernard started out her nursing career in the Pediatric Care unit at Jordan hospital. Though she had not originally intended on being a school nurse, she felt it was a good career for her after her first year at SHS.
“I never felt like I was going to work,” said Ms.Bernard. “Just being around the kids and being there when they need me makes me love this job”
As a school nurse, Ms.Bernard has been able to accompany students on class trips as well.Just recently, she traveled with SHS’s chorus group to Disney, and says it was a great opportunity to “reconnect with students [she] does know, and meet others that [she] never met before.”
As her fourteen year at SHS comes to an end, Ms.Bernard has high hopes for the road ahead.
“ I would like to give back to nursing,” said Ms.Bernard. “It has always been so good to me, and I would love to seek out some volunteer opportunities for nursing.”
Aside from giving back to the medical field, Ms.Bernard plans to travel so San Francisco to see family, as well as take a trip back to Italy. “I truly loved Italy, and certainly wouldn’t mind making another trip out there.”
However, Ms.Bernard said she has no definite plans for the future, and prefers to “go with the flow” of things in her retirement.
