European-Inspired Whimsy New to Cohasset
Familiar face at Wampatuck School opens a new store in Cohasset

From Europe to Cohasset, Scituate resident Pam LaBreck brought the whimsical feel of a European toy store back home. In September, Pam LaBreck opened “Whimsy,” a small shop in Cohasset that offers a variety of toys and trinkets. Aiming for a cozy feel, LaBreck wanted character in her store, which is located at 47A South Main Street, with “quirky details” in the small space that she had her eyes on for years.
After ending her previous career as a librarian at Scituate’s Wampatuck Elementary School, LaBreck said she “didn’t want to do anything that anyone else was doing.” During her travels in France, LaBreck fell in love with the decorative turning structures, or mobiles as they are usually called, that hang over a baby’s crib. She saw them in a toy store in France, and from that the idea of “Whimsy” was created. Frequent trips to France and London gave LaBreck the opportunity to discover the European toy stores, with an interest in the Sass and Belle store specifically. LaBreck used this store and the others stores she discovered as inspiration.
Whimsy has two rooms: the front room includes unique baby gifts and nursery items like mobiles, toys, and clothes; the back room features items like mugs, jewelry, and small trinkets. LaBreck described how there is nothing else like Whimsy in Cohasset, with uniqueness and a worldly atmosphere making it a perfect fit for the South Shore community.
LaBreck said she wanted to have a cozy feel to her store, adding that she even chose to have her dog in the store with her. Located next to Atlantic Bagel, Whimsy’s older building has a charming character. According to LaBreck, “The floors are kind of crooked and the walls are kind of cracked,” which is exactly the feeling LaBreck was trying to achieve.
