New Science Department Head
December 21, 2018
Mr. Newton started as the Science department head for Scituate High School at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. Newton was “looking for an educational leadership position that seemed like a good fit and [Scituate High School] seemed to stand out.”
When asked if he has always been interested in Science, Newton responded “yes” without hesitation. Before transitioning to Scituate High School, Newton taught “sciences of various kinds for 13 years.”
Mrs. Elich, a prior science departments head also provided some insight on Newton. Elich and Newton worked together when Newton was a science teacher in Hanover. Elich described Newton as a “very good and experienced teacher who will do a nice job” as the science department head. Elich believes he will be able to bring some new ideas from his prior experience from other districts. When asked about what advice she would give to Newton, she explained that he was doing a pretty good job, “thinking things through and making decisions that he believes are best for the kids.”
Newton “hopes to be here for a while” and we would love to have him.
