Scituate High School senior Mia Donahue is known as “Mocha Mia” to her close friends. The nickname stems from the ice cream flavor named after her at Nona’s Homemade, her family’s ice cream store, which is located in Scituate Harbor, Hingham, and Hanover. Mia has been a native of Scituate her whole life, living near the beach with her family, including her sister Maddie and brothers Christian and Johnny. She also has a dog, Lyla, who she describes as “crazy but I love her.”
As a member of the National Honor Society, Mia has an excellent work ethic. She is proud of maintaining good grades throughout her high school career. Mia hopes to leave a legacy at SHS as “a kind and hardworking student,” which she is definitely on track to achieve.
Although Mia’s junior year was extremely abnormal due to hybrid learning and the pandemic, she still considers it her favorite year at SHS, saying she was “able to find the positives” during such an unconventional school year.
The most interesting place Mia has traveled to is a small island off the coast of Florida, Sing Island, where she enjoyed the warm weather and different culture with her cousins.
More recently, Mia applied to college and plans to attend a four-year college somewhere in the South; however, she hasn’t decided where. Mia hopes to escape the cold New England winters and to experience cities and cultures that are different from what she’s grown used to in Scituate. Wherever she attends college, Mia may consider a major in marketing, although she is undecided as of right now.
In the meantime, while still a student at SHS, Mia’s favorite class is Ornithology with Mr. Maguire. She finds the class “really interesting and engaging with lots of offsites.”
When asked who she would bring on the Senior Sleigh Ride with her, Mia chose her two best friends, Delaney Sandner and Lily Carnes, commenting that “we have the most fun when we’re together.”
