Joining the 2022 senior sleighride, Class of 2023 Vice-President Lilly George brings her contagious kindness and smile to SHS.

Despite being a class officer, George considers earning the Outstanding Senior Sailor award to be her best accomplishment. George was one of 14 seniors nominated for this distinction. George greatly appreciates her SHS French teacher, Jake Kovach, who nominated her for the award when he saw her interest and passion for learning the French language. In fact, George is the founder of the French Club at SHS, which meets twice a month. She even expanded her passion for world languages beyond the classroom by serving as a student member of the French Committee for the Town of Scituate.

Being a leader in student government has helped George create connections with students in her grade. She decided to run for vice-president to make sure every voice is heard; she also wanted to take on more responsibility than her previous role as treasurer during her junior year. George hopes the 2022-23 academic year will bring everyone in her grade together: “I feel like our grade is really divided–that may be partly because of COVID,” she explained. George hopes seniors realize this is their last year of high school together, and it’s important to make the best of it.

Like most high school seniors, George has her share of regrets: ¨I wish that I joined more clubs and activities because I wasn’t really involved in the community my freshman year,” she said. The pandemic hit when George was a freshman, affecting her high school experience. “I didn’t join things until really junior year, and realized how much I missed out on my first year of high school,” she said. George’s main advice to freshmen is to get involved, which she said can “help you find your friends and interests.” During her junior year, George joined the Math Team and the Robotics Team. Currently, she has a leadership role with both groups. She is also a senior captain on the SHS swim team.

A member and captain of the cross country team, George said some of her best memories include going to pasta parties while getting to know students from different grades. Reflecting on her years with the team, George said this year’s team had the closest bond: “No matter the skill level, everyone was supportive [of each other],” she stated.

Although George “can’t choose a favorite class,” she is enrolled in many high-level courses. Her hardest class this year is AP Physics, and her easiest class is AP Calculus BC. When asked about her top picks for college, George said she applied early and expects to hear back soon.

In the future, George hopes to have a successful and stable career, living a happy and healthy life, and traveling all over the world. For George, success means setting goals and achieving them.

When asked who she would bring on the Senior Sleigh Ride, George said she would bring her sister, Alice!
