Sneakers, a phenomenon that keeps growing, are the most common type of shoe for teenagers in America, and that seems to be the case at Scituate High School.
There are many shoe brands that students wear around the school, so we planned to find the most popular. We sent out a survey to students, and our responses showed that Nike was the most popular shoe brand, with 66 percent of the votes. According to Oberlo, a publication that recently did an article on this topic, Nike is the world’s largest supplier of athletic shoes. They do an excellent job at marketing to teens by creating campaigns for young athletes striving to be like their idols.
Around the world, sneaker culture has been a very popular interest for some time. We wondered if Scituate students were included in this interest, so we questioned students to see if “sneakerheads” were still around. Surveys revealed that 73% of students believe “sneakerheads” are no longer around. The remaining percentage claimed that sneaker culture is still around and sneakerheads play a vital role.
When we asked who has the best shoe collection, the results revealed sophomore Maddie Poppish as the winner. When asked about her favorite shoe brand, she answered, “Jordan, for sure.” According to Poppish, “a good price shoe that also looks nice and is comfortable” is ideal. Since she considers herself to be a sneakerhead, Poppish is happy to have the coolest shoe collection.
Sneakers are more than shoes: They are a way of fashion, self-expression, and comfort. Who knew sneakers could help open up the quietest person to the world and reveal their true identity?
