For the past year, Scituate Public Schools has been rolling out its new website, scit.org. Recently, the site was updated to include a specific section for Scituate High School’s Counseling Department.
Tammy Rundle, director of school counseling at SPS, has been working on the site content since last spring: “I worked with a consultant…also with members of our staff to make sure that everything looked good and appropriate for the high school,” Rundle stated. The website’s main objective is to provide resources to students and guardians at SHS. Rundle clarified that the website includes “academic, social and emotional, mental health, post-secondary and college planning resources.”
In the past, seniors located college planning resources on a dedicated Google Classroom page; however, parents and guardians did not have access to the information. The website makes these resources more accessible. Rundle hopes the website will be a “one-stop shop for students and families,” making it easier for students to work with their guardians through the college application process.
Underclassmen can utilize this website for “course selection and course planning,” which will be released in February. A new link will be sent to students’ and families’ emails detailing information about new courses.
On the old website, the guidance section was “outdated,” Rundle added, due to the nature of the program. According to Rundle, on the new website, “the school district has a digital communications team who will update the website.” She added, “We can send updates that they can put on the site.” The new guidance website will be updated “regularly, in real-time,” to give students and guardians the most up-to-date and accurate information.
Students can access the website at www.scit.org/shs and going under the “Students” section, where you will find the “Counseling Department.” The website is divided into four categories: academic planning, post-graduate & college planning, direct & indirect services, and social & emotional mental health support. For any other needs or questions, the website includes contact information for the guidance counselors at SHS.
Rundle encouraged students and families to check out the website. She said if anyone has “any feedback or recommendations for improvement,” they should email her directly at [email protected].
