There is nothing better than the delicate smell of lavender–so everybody thinks. Many SHS students are wondering if the sensational smell of lavender can be mocked with the new lavender Starbucks drinks.
Lavender powder can be added to any drink at Starbucks, but we wanted to try the most popular flavors. The Starbucks app included several different recommended drinks with the lavender taste, and we opted to try them all: hot lavender oat milk latte, iced lavender oat milk latte, iced lavender cream oat milk matcha, and the lavender crème frappuccino.
We wanted student input before we tried the drinks, so we asked senior Lauren Mann for her thoughts. Admitting she thoroughly enjoys them, Mann described these drinks as “so good!” Mann said she enjoys the matcha one the best, so we absolutely had to try it.
We started out with the hot lavender oat milk latte. We had zero expectations because neither of us typically enjoys hot drinks. Upon the first sip, the lavender did not have a super strong taste, but after having a few sips, we noticed the lavender taste became apparent. The oat milk mixed in with the subtle taste of lavender was definitely a unique taste and surprisingly enjoyable.
After trying the hot latte, we transitioned to the iced latte. We had higher expectations for the iced latte because iced coffee is more our speed. To our surprise, the iced latte was less tasty than the hot latte. The lavender tasted a little too strong and was not a subtle taste like it was in the hot latte. In fact, this coffee reminded us of an essential oil.
We were skeptical about the rest after trying the lavender oat milk latte. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the lavender cream oat milk matcha. The matcha with lavender was way better than the blend with coffee. The two flavors meshed together nicely despite the offsetting green and purple colors.
The last drink we tried was the lavender frappuccino. Its vibrant lavender color and whipped cream on top made it very enticing. This drink was extremely refreshing and only had a faint taste of lavender. It tasted a little bit like a vanilla milkshake with a hint of lavender. This was a great drink to try last, as it was, in our opinion, by far the best.
If you are wondering if you should try the drinks, hop on board with junior Carolyn Good, who says she “can’t wait to try the new flavors” and plans to try the new drinks “as soon as possible.”
