Brewed 143 is an aesthetically beautiful coffee shop that recently opened in North Scituate. After an extensive renovation of the former Marylou’s Coffee location, owner Kerri Curreri said she is “so happy with the results.” Curreri and her husband, Mark also own the gourmet grocery store Board 143 next door.
Once news broke that Marylou’s was leaving North Scituate, the landlord reached out to the Curreris, and they secured the property. According to Kerri Curreri, the idea for the shop came about because “there is no coffee around.” Realizing most Scituate coffee shops are located near Scituate Harbor, she believed adding one to North Scituate was a great decision.
When asked about their intentions for the shop, the Curreris explained they want it to be a comfortable spot for people of all ages. Since many families enjoy the nearby North Scituate playground, Carreri hopes the coffee shop will be a welcoming place for adults and children.
Brewed 143 will be open seven days a week—from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays and 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekends. Beverages include espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, cold brews, and iced coffee. Food options include pastries and croissants. They also plan to make yogurt parfaits every morning. According to Mark Curreri, cold brew is “the most sold” item. With the onset of colder weather, the Curreris plan to include hot cider as an option. Once customers get settled in, they may want to experience “green tea and hot chocolate.”
Kerri Curreri said she has received several job applications from high school students; however, due to the store’s hours, it is very difficult to hire teenagers. More high school students could be hired if they decide to expand the coffee shop’s hours.
As Board 143 is known for supporting local businesses, Mark Curreri said they want to “transfer the same vibe to the coffee shop.” They source products from local businesses, such as coffee from Slack Tide and granola from Little House Granola. Intending to cater to the community and understand their customers, the Curreris want Brewed 143 to be a place for everyone.
