Meet Laura Brink, Scituate High School’s new administrative assistant. As the first person people encounter when walking into the school, Brink is vital in maintaining the school’s daily operations and ensuring a welcoming environment for all.
Brink resides in Abington, but she is originally from Middleton on the North Shore. She and her husband Matt have two children, Mallory and Colton, ages 19 and 13. Mallory, a freshman at Stonehill College in Easton, MA, is majoring in early childhood education. Colton, who is a three-season athlete, is in 8th grade. Brink said she enjoys attending her children’s activities and her favorite hobby is reading—especially historical fiction. Her interest in literature is enhanced by her position as a library trustee in Abington.
Brink brings a wealth of experience to the SHS community. For 22 years, she worked mainly as a tutor in a school environment, primarily with students from preschool to second grade. After taking a year and a half off and working at the front desk of an assisted living facility, she is excited to return to an educational setting.
When asked why she applied for the position at SHS, Brink said she appreciates the school schedule and vacation time and wants to grow in this role, especially after her extensive experience working with children. One of her favorite aspects of the job is seeing all the students and staff daily, and she describes everyone as “very kind and helpful.”Â
Brink explained the importance of multitasking in her position–answering phones, managing attendance records, assisting students, staff, and visitors at the desk, and overseeing everyone who enters and exits the building. Brink believes working as a team with coworkers is vital, as “you can learn a lot from them, and they can learn a lot from you.” Brink is excited about her new role and looks forward to meeting new people, including students and staff.
