For almost a decade now, at least one female mallard duck has nested in the SHS courtyard. And every spring, mothers and ducklings make their way through the SHS hallways and out the front doors, often with a crowd of SHS students watching. However, this year, students from Mr.Maguire’s astronomy, biology, ornithology, and meteorology classes have come together to spice up the courtyard with a brand new duck pond to offer protection to returning mother and ducklings. In efforts to raise money to do so, the “duck squad” has entered a contest to earn up to a $750 grant to construct this sanctuary. SHS is in a competition with other schools across the country, and is currently in the lead. To keep this lead, the duck squad is relying on SHS students and residents alike to ‘like” the duck squad page.
