Johann Johnson Heading to Air Force Academy
March 18, 2016
Johann Johnson, a senior at Scituate High School, was granted acceptance to the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Johnson said he learned the good news at around 6 a.m. while eating a bowl of spaghetti for breakfast. Since he was running late for school, Johnson was left with little time to celebrate this extraordinary accomplishment, but his excitement was palpable.
Vice Principal Brian Duffey spoke very highly of Johnson and his acceptance, naming the Air Force Academy “one of the most impressive schools you can go to.” Duffey said the Air Force Academy has the “academic rigor of an Ivy League with the commitment of serving the country.” He believes the regimented lifestyle of a military academy sets a student up for a life of success.
Attending a military academy is very different from attending a traditional college: The lifestyle is mentally demanding and pushes students’ limits to create a very strong work ethic. It takes a special type of person to handle the demands of the USAFA, but Johnson is definitely up for the challenge, and we know he will make SHS proud!
