Credo Season

Credo Season is coming quickly for Scituate High Schools Juniors. This time of year is a period for Juniors to develop new skills, tackle new challenges, and find their inner self through whatever they decide to do. As a part of the “Language of Nature” unit, students are being asked to explore the act of self-improvement. Students will find truths about themselves and the world around them. Students are being asked to examine and develop a new skill.

Courtney Cutting, a junior at Scituate High School, has decided to tackle the credo project by completing puzzles. Cutting has agreed to take on this task to help her develop a new sense of patience. Every two weeks, Cutting will make a 1,000 piece puzzle. “It is going to make me a more patient person and help me persevere through my struggles,” said Cutting. The moral objective of this project is to help students like Cutting, find something new about themselves and find a sense of stability. From the project, Cutting hopes to come out with newly developed patience, perseverance, and overall calm personality.

For students, like a junior at Scituate High School, Nick Muha; the project is based more on physical strength and mentality. Muha is learning Mixed Martial Arts for his credo project. Mixed Martial Arts is a full-contact sport, involving extreme training and hard work. From this project, Muha is hoping to be made into a stronger person physically. Muha, who is 17, will be working with his 24-year-old brother during this experience, then record a sparring match between them. Mixed Martial arts is a rare obstacle to tackle for a credo project, but Muha is determined to gain his strength and learn this new skill. One day you might see Muha fighting professionally.

Annika Lisi, junior at Scituate High School has decided to learn American Sign

Language (ASL) for her personal credo project. Sign Language has always interested her, and she has always had a desire to be able to communicate with those who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Lisi is taking on this experience by starting slow, first by mastering the basics, then moving into harder topics like connecting sentences. Lisi hopes this will ultimately help her ability to communicate with others and not only learn how to use ASL, but also have the opportunity to interpret for others and create a mutual relationship.

Credo season is the perfect chance for Juniors at Scituate High School to come out of their comfort zone and try something new. It is shown through the challenging, relaxing, different tasks student are tackling to broaden their horizon and achieve the ideas of transcendentalism.
