Members of Select Choir Pay Tribute to Annette Moore
January 15, 2019
On Wednesday, January 16th, the Scituate High School Select Choir will be delivering their tribute to Scituate’s beloved science teacher, Annette Moore, through song. SHS choral director, William Richter, will be taking 26 students to the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, located on Country Way, to perform at her funeral.
Richter picked a piece of music already in the choir’s repertoire, “Sing Me to Heaven,” by Daniel Gawthrop. Richter noted that “more beautiful than the music” itself is the poem written by Jane Griner, which encompasses the meaning behind Gawthrop’s music. This piece of music focuses on the inevitable grief and mourning of one’s passing, and how people “can find comfort in music.”
Participating students were chosen by Richter based on their musical talent as well as their ability to sing at an event filled with such sorrow. The strong connection many members of the SHS community shared with Ms. Moore, whether as a teacher or colleague, makes the tribute even more meaningful and emotional.
Following the funeral services, members of the choir and the high school faculty will return to school, where they will eat lunch and offer support to one another.
