At the beginning of the school year, you may have noticed some changes around the building. Over the summer, there were numerous updates to improve the building, such as a new rubber roof and flooring throughout the hallways.
According to the Assistant Director of Facilities for Scituate Public Schools, Chris Cataldo, before the recent update, the school’s roof was leaking, which caused problems during the 2022-23 academic year. He said the new roofing went directly over the previous one, making the application process easier. Compared to previous roofing projects, the timeline and cost were more manageable.
New flooring in the hallways was another welcomed addition. There is a new base coat on the flooring and new treads on the stairs. SHS physical education teacher Kathleen McCarthy said she thinks the new flooring near the gym “makes the hallway look bigger” and “brightens it up.” She is pleased with the new consistent flooring throughout all the hallways.
These new updates may not be something students notice right away, but when asked, most students shared positive opinions. Senior Callie Loeffel said, “New flooring is a great step to continue improving the school.”
As far as flooring, the project is complete for now. There are no immediate plans to replace the carpets in classrooms. However, there are plans to replace the cafeteria flooring in the future. Since there have been issues with the cafeteria flooring, this project will move forward.
