On Thursday, December 21st, during WINN Block, Kevin Pendergast will perform Dr. Seuss’s The Grinch Who Stole Christmas for the final time during his high school years. Pendergast’s holiday tradition started in 2016 and continued yearly, including during the pandemic.
Since Pendergast will graduate from Scituate High School in 2024, he is extremely excited about this year’s performance.
SHS special education teacher Michael Timcoe, Pendergast’s teacher in the iExcel program, commended him for his “interactive performance,” adding that Pendergast is “good at prompting people” so everyone remains engaged.
Pendergast has seen all of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas adaptions, including the 1966 animated television special, the 2018 animated film, and the 2000 Jim Carrey film adaptation. Pendergast said his favorite is the original animated version with “Boris Karloff” (William Henry Pratt) as the Grinch’s narrator. Cindy Lou Who, also from the 1966 television special, is Pendergast’s favorite character because of her caring nature.
Like most SHS students, Pendergast said he’s “looking forward to Christmas break.” Along with watching the Grinch movies, Pendergast said he plans to enjoy the 1965 television special “A Charlie Brown Christmas” during the holiday season.
Pendergast’s performance is a holiday highlight for many SHS students. If you would like to attend, plan a trip down to “Whoville” during WINN Block on December 21st, where you will “always be welcomed with holiday cheer.”
