Hudl is an athletics-based service created by Agile Sports Technologies, Inc. that provides athletes and coaches with tools to review game footage. Thanks to the Scituate athletics department, Hudl is now available to Scituate High School athletes.
In August 2023, it was announced that Scituate High School’s sports streaming service, the Hudl Network, would receive a series of upgrades that would streamline the film viewing process. Alternate streaming services had been utilized for years and were in place when Scituate High School Athletic Director Scott Paine assumed his position in 2021.
The alternative network provided basic streaming and an overview of the gameplay. While this allowed student-athletes and coaches to view the game film, the platform lacked efficiency, made film compiling difficult, and excluded various teams that did not utilize the main stadium turf or gymnasium.
Recognizing the importance of film review and compiling, the athletic department took steps to initiate the implementation of the Hudl network. Paine reported that “additional cameras were purchased this year,” allowing every turf at SHS to have film recorded. A portable camera was also purchased to travel to away games, tennis courts, and the rinks. This film would then become available on the Hudl platform, where footage can be reviewed and saved.
SHS athletic trainer Chris Alves has been involved in installing Hudl. He commented, “Part of this upgrade also added to us having the ability to potentially broadcast all athletic events through Hudl TV.”
Student-athletes and coaches alike have utilized the platform to record and improve gameplay. Paine remarked that Hudl allows teams to better prepare for future games, as “our gameplay as well as the other team’s is available.” Additionally, Paine shared his hopes for student-athletes to compile personal highlight-reels using Hudl, optimistic that it will improve the collegiate recruiting experience for Scituate student-athletes.
Piper Crotty, a senior soccer player at Scituate High School, remarked that she would recommend Hudl to student-athletes who are interested in pursuing athletics in college. She stated, “Hudl has made it so easy for me to pinpoint key moments in games and compile them into one video.” Courtesy of the platform’s nuances, Crotty reached out to college coaches with her highlight reel created with Hudl and has since committed to Merrimack College to continue her academic and athletic career. Hudl can assist student-athletes whose goal is to assume a similar path as Crotty.
