The term “Sassy Man Apocalypse” has quickly stormed across social media platforms in various communities. Before this term became popularized, some considered calling a boy “sassy” offensive. In the past, this dig would be made for boys deemed more “feminine.” With the term’s growing popularity, it is used to describe expressive men who are smart-mouthed and wear their emotions heavily on their sleeves.
Unsurprisingly, “Sassy Man Apocalypse” spread quickly from social media to Scituate High School. Consequently, many students have noticed a change in the boys’ attitudes over the past several months. The male population here at SHS feels more comfortable expressing their inner feelings–even if doing so sparks controversy. Nevertheless, their quick-witted, bold comments can come as a shock to some students.
SHS senior Emma Dawber first heard about the “Sassy Man Apocalypse” last year on TikTok and noticed it became more widespread on social media. She explained, “The ‘Sassy Man Apocalypse’ is how men have gained more attitude and sass because they have gained too much confidence for some unknown reason.” Dawber said she has “definitely noticed” a lot of boys at SHS “falling victim” to the trend.
There is some concern that the trending “sassy” attitude does not stop with students. Some would argue that certain male teachers are demonstrating this modern attitude–the top contender being a notoriously quick-witted math teacher. Unfamiliar with the current trend, this teacher requested a definition of “Sassy Man Apocalypse.” His response was notably sharp when asked if he wears his emotions on his sleeve: “Absolutely!” Explaining that his closest relationships with students are inherently sassy, this teacher described the ultimate apocalypse: “Love-hate relationships, where they love to hate me!”
