Whoa that was a nail biter. After a nerve racking final two minutes of the Division II Girls Varsity Soccer South Semifinals, Scituate comes out with a 1-0 win over Sandwich. Junior Erica Badger scored the only and winning goal for the Lady Sailors. Senior Meghan James stood like a wall taking her place in net making multiple saves and showing Sandwich nothing could get by her.
“We played our hearts out, now we are off to the finals, so, we’re really tough and we are all grateful for all the support, that everyone came all the way out to Canton to come and watch us. It’s awesome, we’re really happy right now,” said junior Sailors captain Marlena Reidy.
In addition to a shot at the Division II title, Scituate has also been under the direction of a new coach. Coach Rob Williams or “Coach Rob” as the team calls him. Coach Rob was previously a coach for the club team The Galway Rovers. Now he leads the Lady Sailors to the State Tournament Finals. “It feels great. We hung in there, the last few minutes they had a couple of chances, but the girls deserve it. All season long they’ve been amazing, they’ve worked hard, there’s so many of them. We only have the one senior, which is unheard of for a team to make the finals with one senior. It’s good and we want to win it for Meghan.” said Coach Rob after the game.
Come and support the girls as they go on to face Notre Dame Academy on Monday November 11 at 11:30 at Braintree High School for the Division II South Championships. Let’s Get Rowdy!
