Whether you have seen him surfing with his friends at Peggotty or tutoring kids in the library after school, you know who Gibson Davis is. Not only was he nominated “Most likely to be President”, “Best date to bring home to your parents” and “Most stylish”, Gibby Davis is also Treasurer of National Honors Society and a respected athlete here at SHS. Captain of the boys soccer team, Davis helped lead his team to a second year Patriot League title this season.
Davis has been playing soccer for as long as he can remember, he said, “I always played in the backyard with my brother and sisters growing up and then I started Mr. C’s. I’ve been playing ever since.”
Davis could not have been more proud of his team and their accomplishments this season. With an overall record of 12-5-1, the boys not only won the Patriot League for the second year in a row but they made it past the first round of playoffs for the first time in thirty plus years. “We were expected to do really bad this year because we lost so many seniors but we all had really good chemistry, we outworked our opponents and we had fun everywhere we went.” Davis said.
Because of his humbling personality, Davis rarely talks about his personal goals this season. He was not only nominated as Captain this year by his teammates but he was awarded the Patriot League Sportsmanship Award. Coach Maki said “It’s no surprise Gibby earned the League Sportsmanship award for our program. He’s highly respected among his peers and the coaching staff. He displays sincerity and genuineness with respect to his teammates on and off the field.”
Co-captain Keegan True said, “Gibby is very vocal and has great leadership qualities. He always puts his teammates before himself.”
One of Davis’s best qualities according to his teammates is his selflessness. Davis is always putting his teammates before himself, addressing his team’s accomplishments this season opposed to his own. His modest personality and team pride allowed Davis to be a quality leader. “Gibby played a great leadership role, he was encouraging and always helping out,” said junior Curran Wait.
As his last soccer season winds to an end Davis is beginning to prepare for his fourth and final baseball season this spring. Davis is not planning on staying close for college. He is finishing up his applications for Purdue, Clemson and Villanova and says that no matter where he goes he will stay active in club sports.
