Whether you see him eating at T.K. O’Malley’s, studying in school, or practicing on the turf, Christian Brady is always a bright spirited character. Generally, he is referred to in the halls as “QB1,” as he is the starting quarterback for Scituate High School’s Varsity Football team. With his vocal leadership skills and overall enthusiasm, Brady is quite the leader both on and off the field.
Since Brady was eight years old, he completely immersed himself in the sport of football. He not only watched the New England Patriots every Sunday, but he also improved his quarterback skills for Scituate’s Youth Program. In his youth career, Brady led the most highly decorated youth Sci-Coh program to six Super Bowl appearances and five victories. Through hard work and dedication to refine different skills, Brady has made gigantic strides for SHS Football. As his strength and agility continues to improve, he plans to bring his skills to a collegiate level team.
Brady has faced a tough 2014 season as the team has struggled with injuries and 4th quarter heroics from opposing teams. Currently holding a 4-4 record, Brady is optimistic about the team’s outlook on the rest of the season. When asked about the team’s mentality going forward, Brady said, “I think the team is going to pull through for the home stretch of the season. We have had some struggles coming together and being prepared at game time, but I think we will be able to make it to the postseason.”
Brady shared some information about his game day rituals and post-game cool downs. “I find that I get pretty stressed out come game day, and what really helps me get in the zone is the pre-game meeting with coach followed by the high energy within the locker room,” he said. Brady can’t imagine a game day without it. He says there is no better feeling than leading the team to the field alongside senior captains Scott Radding, Brian Cochran, and Chris Bearce. Luckily, the Scituation Staff had a chance to talk to these captains of SHS football. When asked about Brady’s performance this season, Radding stated, “[Brady] is a true team player and is a role model figure for the younger players on the team.”
After playing the game of football for over a decade, Brady often reflects on his career, both on and off the field. He feels the bonds he formed with both his teammates and best friends have shaped who he is today. With his football career at SHS coming to a close, Brady is excited about the possibility of playing college football. While he says he is excited for his future football achievements, he said, “I will miss hanging out with my friends” once he graduates from high school.
Although Brady will soon play his final offensive drive for Scituate High School, his ideal leadership skills and dedication to football will leave a lasting mark on the school community. Christian Brady exemplifies the true meaning of the term “student athlete,” and he will likely continue his football career using the principles established through Scituate’s football programs.
