This past Saturday, March 4th, the Scituate High School Boys Varsity basketball team ended their season with a heartbreaking loss. Their opponent was the number one ranked team in the South Division 2 bracket: Falmouth (16-2). Falmouth triumphed with a score of 74-45.  Dedicated fans took the hour drive to Falmouth High school and filled the stands to support the boys. Despite Falmouth’s impressive skill and shooting percentage, Scituate persevered and attempted to match their opponent’s play throughout the game.

Scituate High School’s Athletic Director and Vice Principal, Mr. Luette, shared his pride for the team and described his feelings regarding their season by saying, “I’m proud and impressed with their love of the game and never quitting….they were very enjoyable to watch. They’re fast paced, quick, and they made it fun to watch. They’re very respectful kids, it was awesome, they had a great year.”

When asked about his favorite moment of this year’s playoff run, senior captain Joe Mauceri stated, “Even though we lost in my final game of my career against Falmouth, it was the best moment because it was the best shooting performance I’ve ever had in my life.” Mauceri’s description of his team’s season as a whole was said to be “more successful than I thought coming into it with such a young team. With only four seniors, our record was 13-9; we did better than I thought.”

In addition, the Junior Varsity concluded their season with a 9-11 record, and the Freshman team ended with a record of 11-5. Both teams worked hard all season and are looking to improve for their 2017-2018 season next winter.
