The Scituate Football team has been a staple for its winning ability. A new year means a new team but the same goal. The winning culture has always been a stamp on this team’s resemblance with a strong coaching staff and an athletic group of kids.
New to the program this year, Coach Dominic Boulrisse, a new physical education teacher at Jenkins Elementary, had some things to say about the team and the season ahead. Coach Boulrisse stated, “My expectations are always the same year in and year out. The goal is to win a league championship, make the playoffs, and win a D4 state championship. For the players, my expectations are that each week, we get better; to reach the top of the mountain, we have to get better each week. I want to help players get to where they want to be, whether it’s college football or improving from day 1 to the last game at Gillette. That is my ultimate goal.” With the season ahead, it is clear that everyone has the same goal in mind and is ready to play.
The Sailors started with a tough loss to Milton in the home opener, 42-14, but bounced back in a beat down on Whitman-Hanson Regional 47-7. After two home games, the Sailors had their first away game against Foxborough in week 3. After a hard-fought battle, the sailors came up just short in a 24-14 defeat.
As the out-of-conference games are over, the Sailors move on to the Patriot League games. With a challenging first game ahead, Coach Boulrisse was asked about the matchup against the Pembroke Titans. “Our out-of-conference games are important because they allow us to see some of the best teams in the state. Those out-of-conference games prepare us for the Patriot League, one of the best high school football conferences from top to bottom. Pembroke is the best team we play this week, and we must take care of business. If we want to get where we want to be, it starts with the Titans this Friday night.” As the team approaches their first league game, senior Captain Colton Downing and Senior Lachlan Steinmeir stated, “We feel prepared for this matchup, and with a good week of practice we should be ready to take the win.” The Sailors feel confident in taking the win on September 29th, 7 p.m.
