The future of Scituate basketball is bright with this season’s junior varsity players. The varsity team currently includes 11 seniors, so a stacked junior varsity roster means great things for years to come.
As of January 10th, 2024, the varsity record is 7-3, with the junior varsity record standing at 4-4, with sophomore Rafe Norman leading the team. The season has just kicked off, and they are looking firm. The team is packed with sophomores who have grown as a team after getting a taste of the high school experience after a lackluster freshman season.
Players on the junior varsity roster shared their experience with the team and what they look forward to in the future with this organization. Sophomore Finn Collins, power forward for the team, discussed how he prepares in the offseason: “During the offseason, I make sure I’m staying in shape. I’ve been working out and doing AAU basketball.” When questioned about how he stays motivated in games when shots are missing, he stated, “It’s tough when shots aren’t falling–this team puts so much work in.”
Sophomore Coby Alden-Danforth, another member of the junior varsity team, said, “It’s been a hard road with difficulties–but good so far–I’ve had a fun time.” Alden-Danforth was questioned about the upcoming years and his feelings about playing under Coach Poirier: “It would be great to play varsity basketball. I’ve always imagined what it would be like. I’m very excited to learn and play for Coach Poirier.”
The future of Scituate basketball is exhilarating, with an excellent group of junior varsity players who will accomplish great things in the upcoming years.
