Julia Gates, Staff Writer
Julia Gates is one of the newest additions to the Honors Journalistic Writing Class of 2017-2018. In her role as a staff writer, she is excited to continue fostering her love for writing by interviewing, drafting, and revising stories for The Scituation. She is the President of her Student Government Class of 2019 and is excited to have an active say in the decisions about Junior Prom. When Julia is not leading her class, she can be found working at Atlantic Bagel in Cohasset whipping up some bagels – specifically, her favorite, cinnamon sugar, of course! If you really want a great bagel, she has a hidden secret: putting extra cinnamon sugar on the cream cheese. Not only does she serve her class and bagel lovers, but she is also involved in Interact Club. This club holds events for students with special needs, like when they had a Christmas dance for the students, with gifts and candy for everyone. She loves swim team and lacrosse because of the team camaraderie and positive atmosphere it brings. Her favorite sport, however, is swimming because of the individualistic nature of the sport, combined with a larger team setting where she can support her fellow teammates. If she could travel anywhere, Julia would go to Hawaii because of the beautiful islands and the warm weather. Julia and her older brother went to Hawaii when they were younger to visit her uncle. Speaking of her brother, Julia hopes to follow in his footsteps by going to a school with ROTC, or army training to eventually go into the military service. She also loves Biology because she is able to investigate the world as we know it and can study the embodiment of humans. She also loves writing because of the freedom to express herself and her ideas so she is excited to be in this class to have a platform to convey topics of interest. Julia cannot wait to get started!
