Leiney Smith, Staff Writer
Despite her prior journalistic experience being limited to personal journaling, Leiney Smith’s article “Senior Assassin Returns!” was published in The Scituation last year and helped earn her a spot on the team. Smith (She/Her) joined the writing staff this year because of her love for writing and her eagerness to explore the world around her. Even though The Scituation is run through SHS, Smith loves the “out of school element,” where she can get to know other people in her community and share their stories and opinions. Smith is an inclusive, fun-loving libra who values bettering herself in academics and building connections with her peers.
Other than joining The Scituation, Smith participates in many extracurricular activities during and after school. She is a part of the National Honor Society and aims for the Honor roll every quarter. Smith also participates in a lot of community service activities, including food drives, fundraising for Carolina Hill (a local family shelter), and volunteering as a youth soccer coach. She is a member of Student Government and the captain of the sport she holds most dear to her heart: soccer.
Going forward, Smith wants her work on The Scituation to be high-quality and interesting to her readers. Having been drawn to journalism to investigate the inside scoop of her school and community, Smith wants to focus on pieces about the students of SHS, as well as controversial opinion pieces. Next year, she hopes to attend a good college where she can be happy. Smith is always true to herself and inspires others to do the same, encouraging students through her positive character to do their best and strive for improvement.
