Senior Jack O’Donoghue is one of Scituate High School’s most gifted athletes. Not only is he a dominate defense man on the Scituate Varsity hockey team, but he is a three sport athlete as well.
He has been on three varsity teams every single year of his high school career. Playing on the golf team and the lacrosse team are just two of O’Donoghue’s many talents. Jack has had major success both on the field and on the ice. He help Scituate win a state championship his freshman year for the Lacrosse team. But hockey is his true passion. The senior defense men is looking forward to the upcoming hockey season, saying “It’s my last year and I hope the team can come out on top. The keys to success are working hard and anchoring up.” With his hard work ethic he will lead the Sailors Hockey team to victory.
O’Donoghue, aside from being a great hockey player, is an even better teammate. Sophomore Cam Mitchell said “My cousin Jack is an all-around solid player. He’s never cocky and does his job on the ice. Jack is a leader and shows by example on the ice.”
Senior Daniel DelGrosso has been teammates with O’Donoghue for two years. DelGrosso said, “Jack has a great feel for the game. He has natural talent for the game and is always working hard.”
On the ice, O’Donoghue is focused and intense, being aggressive and working hard for the Sailors. Off the ice, O’Donoghue shows a much different side of himself. He has a very relaxed, laid back personality. He loves to goof around, joke with his teammates and have fun. O’Donoghue does not have many hobbies; he usually is working on his skills rather then being lazy. O’Donoghue is dedicated to his sports life. He never takes a break and that shows what a hard working individual he is. Instead of participating in other activities O’Donoghue is improving on his game when other are taking a day off.
After high school, O’Donoghue plans to go to prep school instead of college. O’Donoghue wants to play all three of his sports after high school. He believes that if he goes to a prep school for a year that he will be able to improve his skills and be competitive in college.
O’Donoghue is a major contributor to the Scituate High School hockey program. He will definitely be missed on the ice after he leaves this season. Even though the hockey team will be able to fill the position O’Donoghue played, there will be no one replacing what a great leader and all-around player he was: athlete, leader, and a good kid on top of it all. The hockey teams future looks very bright ahead of them and they will give a huge challenge to any team they face. Any obstacle this teams comes up against will be over come by the skilled team and get through it with the amazing talents of O’Donoghue.
