Scituate Harbor will be undergoing a significant makeover with the recent changes being to some of its beloved shops. Along with the addition of Nona’s ice cream shop to the harbor front, construction in Coffee Corner as well as the Satuit Hardware Store will put a new face on Scituate Harbor.
As of Saturday Mar. 17, a new Nona’s ice cream shop took up residency in the previous home of Harbor Scoops located next to the Mill Wharf Cinemas. Nona’s ice cream, although a new part of the Scituate community, is not foreign to Scituate residents, with another branch located in Hingham center and its unmistakable ice cream truck making regular summer appearances at the Scituate beaches.
Nona’s is expected to bring new variety to the lives of Scituate ice cream lovers, selling treats including ice cream, sherbets and frozen yogurt. Freshman and new employee of the Scituate Nona’s, Phoebe Ryan is elated about the new addition to the harbor, “I think all of these changes will definitely have a positive impact. I’m excited to work somewhere that will be a major part of the Scituate community, especially with the warm weather!”
Harbor Scoops addicts should not fear, however, for this classic summertime location is merely moving with the recent harbor renovations. Just across Cole Parkway, the popular bagel and coffee shop Coffee Corner plans to extend its walls and incorporate Harbor Scoops ice cream into its repertoire. According to Michael Shesky, owner of both the Satuit Hardware Store as well as Coffee Corner, plans for renovations include expanding the wall joining the hardware store and Coffee Corner in order to enlarge the size of the coffee shop. Pending town approval, this construction was scheduled to begin around the week of Mar.19.
These recent changes in Scituate are sure to stir a reaction among the Scituate community, so acquired to their beloved harbor shops. News of the changes was generally received well, as this shop is bound to open a whole new array of flavors and options to members of the Scituate community. Some residents, however, are reluctant to accept the changes easily. Junior Brendan May was less than satisfied upon Nona’s introduction and said “I don’t think Scituate needs three ice cream places in the same harbor. Plus they don’t serve mint chocolate chip ice cream, so who wants to even go there?”
Despite any mixed feelings, the Scituate community should be prepared for the changes planned for the Harbor. With these new additions, re- locations and construction, the harbor changes are bound to have an impact on the lives of Scituate residents.
