It goes without saying that dressing comfortably always feels great, but sometimes the scrubs are not always the best option at school. It is not necessarily practical to wear sweatpants and a T-shirt everyday to school, not only because you won’t look like you’re ready to learn, but you won’t feel it. On any other occasion some sweatpants are associated with bedtime, just so you can be comfortable. One thing students today at SHS do not realize, is that they would be comfortable in things that the student would not normally think to wear. Kids often connect wearing something uncomfortable with wearing something extremely fancy, but that is rarely the case in a public high school environment.
Junior Marie MacCune said, “I think dressing comfortable is important, but if you’re not focused on what you’re wearing and how you’re feeling than you won’t be focused on your work.”
If you wear a pair of lululemon’s and a hoodie everyday, you’re going to be comfortable, but let’s be honest, do you really want to wear a pair of yoga pants to school? Most people who wear yoga pants don’t even practice yoga, they usually just wear them because they look nice and everyone else has them.Wear something that not only represents you but is appropriate for where you are and who’s going to see you. I like to think of it as dressing as if your grandparents are coming over. Dressing for school is not at all as fancy as dressing for a wedding, but it is not so low key and casual that it looks like you’re going to a slumber party.
Starting with a top, any sort of sweater is totally acceptable. Sweaters not only look nice, but they’re usually made out of wool or cotton which is extremely comfortable if it’s cold out. If the weather is on the hotter side, a nice bright colored polo is not only classy but comfortable. Pants can really make you or break you. Try to stray away from the classic gray sweatpants or lululemons. Jeans are completely casual and comfortable. Unless you wear skinny jeans that are a tad bit too skinny, then it could affect how comfortable you are. Jeans not only look acceptable for school but they are super cozy. They may not be sweatpants but they won’t be suffocating your legs, like other pants do. When spring and summer roll around it’s time to break out the shorts. For boys or girls, a nice pair of chinos, that come in a variety of style and color, not only look really good but they feel nice as well. Stay away from the basketball shorts that don’t really go with anything. Remember, if you wear something too often, others will think you have a limited style and lack diversity.
Ultimately, it’s up to you what you want to wear. Since, SHS is such a diverse community, it’s great that the students are able to represent themselves through the variety of clothes that they wear. At the same time kids are likely to roll out of bed, and throw on whatever they may find. But Scituate is not filled with fashion gurus, so you won’t be on the next episode of What Not to Wear, but remember how you can fit in with the community, whilst looking good and feeling even better.
