As a member of the 4th ranked team in Massachusetts, Corey Murray continues to shine on the field amongst her talented teammates. Netting 15 goals and 10 assists this soccer season alone, Murray continues to be a huge contributor to the team’s success.
Finishing off her final year as a starting forward on the varsity girls’ soccer team, Murray also has two years of captainship under her cleats as a junior and senior. This past season has been one of the most memorable since her time at Scituate High School, especially when the team beat former State Champions, NDA, for the second time. Murray said, “Beating NDA feels really good after last year’s heartbreaking loss. We want to go all the way this year.”
Teammate and co-captain Erika Badger agrees that Murray has been a powerhouse on the field this season. “This year she started off faster than last year. She’s been scoring from the start and also has a few hat-tricks. She’s a great leader and will keep putting in 110% effort until our goal as a team is reached, which is ultimately becoming state champions. She’s going to leave it all on the field, every game, and everyone looks up to her for it,” Badger said.
Next year, Murray will continue her athletic journey at St. Anselm’s college, playing Division II soccer. Murray was initially scouted by the Division I team at Northeastern University and later decided that Saint Anselm’s was the best option for her. Murray explained she wanted to balance the rigors of a nursing program and the commitment required for playing high-level soccer. On top of her soccer success, Murray is also an avid ice hockey athlete. As seen through her involvement in ice hockey with the Breakers, soccer with Galway Rovers, and with the Boston Breakers, Murray has kept busy from a young age.
Murray has traveled to Florida, California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Spain for soccer tournaments throughout her career. Although she has traveled across the country to play her sport, Murray says, “My favorite memory was probably going to Spain and playing against teams from all over the world and getting to the semi-finals there. For next year though, I can’t wait to play on my new team, meet new people, and challenge myself as an athlete.”
For now, Murray will finish off her high school career as a Sailor, hoping to end with a State Championship title.
