Scituation Election Update
December 13, 2016
Just a few days ago, Donald Trump caught himself in a sticky situation. An audio clip was released, exposing profanities spoken by Trump, where he made degrading remarks about women. Donald Trump has been known for his bombastic personality and surprising comments, but this is what many of his supporters love about him. This election has been one of the most controversial elections in the history of this country, due to the amount of offensive statements, lies, and scandals from both parties since the start of the campaign. Each debate and moment along the campaign has left some voters confused and frustrated, while also being the full focus of news organizations, and of course, late night TV.
Trump’s comments have occasionally been directed at women, and his polls are reflecting his statements. In a survey from June, only about 34% of women reported that they support Trump and plan to vote for him. This was further proved on October 12th, 2016, when women gathered around Trump Tower in New York, to protest Trump’s actions and comments.
An audio piece segment recorded on an “Access Hollywood” bus from 2005 was published by The Washington Post, exposing the degrading comments toward women made by Trump; his use of vulgarity and offensive language caused a stir in the media and became the topic of casual conversation throughout out the nation. These comments had detrimental consequences to Trump’s reputation as a presidential candidate. However, Trump was not the only one harmed by the scandal: Billy Bush is under fire for his contribution in the audio conversation. This being the second time in less than two months of Bush being involved in a controversy – the first being an incident involving Ryan Lochte’s false story about being robbed in Rio this past August – Bush is yet again taking the spotlight, although, this time, not so proudly. The crude comments made were just a factor in the decision to fire Bush, but more importantly, the fact that he covered up information that he knew would have bad consequences for Trump was considered a fire-able offense for a journalist, who is supposed to inform the public
