Super Bowl weekend is here, and Scituate High School is divided between the “Swifties” and Anna Frey. With the Chiefs being 11-6 and first in the AFC West division, and the 49ers being 12-5 and first in the NFC West, Super Bowl LVIII could be a tight contest, a daydream, or a nightmare.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship has created a whole new football fan base across the country, and the Chiefs are a huge favorite among many female viewers who will be tuning in just to see Swift. According to numerous sources, Swift has increased the number of female viewers by 2 million.
However, on the 49ers side, quarterback Brock Purdy and TikTok phenomenon Anna Frey have attracted a lot of media attention–and 1.2 million TikTok followers–with their “long lost sibling,” look-alike story that has been generating a scene in San Francisco. Frey has promised to attend the Super Bowl.
At SHS, interest in Sunday’s Super Bowl is also growing–especially with special education teacher Janna Downing’s annual Super Bowl prediction bracket. Many students have different opinions on what the final will look like, but when senior Sam Brown was asked who he thinks will win, he quickly responded, “I mean the Chiefs are definitely going to win, but I can’t stand seeing Kelce and Taylor Swift anymore. Taylor Swift honestly has just taken over the league.” Brown even called this year’s Super Bowl the “Taylor Swift Bowl.”
Responding to Swift’s influence, senior Michael Porter shared his perspective: “If I see Jackson Mahomes (Patrick Mahomes’s brother) on TikTok doing a dance with Taylor Swift, I will never watch the NFL ever again.”
Porter and Brown agreed that the Super Bowl is going to be won by the Chiefs–and they will not be happy. Numerous students agreed the Chiefs are favored to win, but they would rather see the 49ers succeed.
When asked to share his Super Bowl score prediction, senior James Sullivan stated, “I think the game is going to be close at halftime–around 14-14–and then going into the 2nd half, Mahomes and Kelce will just completely take over and pull away. So, I think that the final score will be 31-21 Chiefs.”
Senior Dylan Richman overheard the conversation and commented, “No way–I bet 28-24 San Francisco–nobody is stopping Purdy.” The room then became torn apart with all the different perspectives of the game and what the outcome would be. At the end of the rebuttal, the conclusion was the Chiefs will take home Super Bowl 58.
The ultimate take on the 49er’s vs the Chiefs might be the fame and hype behind them. Will TikTok star Anna Frey and Brock Purdy carry the 49er’s, or will the Chiefs claim victory with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce?
